As a first post for joining the TNT IronTeam (which will start TOMORROW) , I’ll copy what I have on my Fundraising Page:
What is an Ironman Triathlon?
2.4 miles swim, 112 miles bike AND 26.2 run (All within a time limit of 16 hours)
Before you read my story, let me tell you my journey:
August 2006 – “What? The most I ever walked was from class to my car in college” — I ran my FIRST running event, The Nike Run Hit Remix (5 miles).
October 2006 – “I hate running, but I’ll give it a try!” — First Half Marathon, Long Beach (13.1 miles)
June 2007 – “If I could finish a half marathon, I can do a full” — First Full Marathon, Rock N Roll San Diego (26.2 miles)
October 2010 – “Marathon #10” — Athens, Greece for the 2,500th Anniversary of the original Marathon.
November 2010 – “Time to try new challenges!” — I will start training for the Vineman Triathlon on July 2011 (Full Ironman Distance) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training.
Fun Facts:
I don’t know how to swim(yes, seriously… from 1-10, I’m at level ZERO)
I don’t own a bike
I’ve never done a triathlon, but training includes an Olympic distance and Half Ironman distance triathlon before I do the big event
Sure, this all sounds too crazy, and It will definitely be a huge lifestyle change, but the main reason why I do this is for everyone affected by cancer. There’s many great organizations out there, like American Cancer Society, Livestrong, and Stand Up 2 Cancer, but I have to choose one. I will keep everyone in mind through my training though!
I’ve been volunteering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training for 4 years now, and the connections I’ve made have been so life changing. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line – a cure!
Thank you all for your support through my journeys, and I’m excited to try a new endurance sport!
So, what do you think ?
